Tonight I participated in a DJ Battle at Guitar Center. Guitar Center used to hold a bunch of DJ Battles, but it’s been a few years since they’ve held one. I was lucky enough to get to participate tonight, and even luckier to take 2nd place out of about 20 DJs. The prizes for 2nd place included a Blue Encore 100 Studio Microphone, (which is great because a microphone for my new studio is something I’ve been meaning to buy) a pair of V-Moda Crossfade LP Headphones, and a Traktor Kontrol Z2 Mixer…totaling about $950 in value.
Big shouts to Sako (DJ Toxic) at Guitar Center for putting on the battle, and the judges DJ Dynamix - who recently took 5th place on VH1′s Master Of The Mix, and said of my set “If Kid Capri were here, he’d be standing up right now.” Vick One – DJ on Power106 and Nick Ferrer – Dope DJ and tour manager for Eric D-Lux. Also to Nick Hogan for hosting!

Today is gonna be awesome! Once the weather starts to warm up (yes I know we’re in Southern California but people think anything below 70 is freezing here) Baja Sharkeez Hermosa Beach throws a weekly party called Crush Sundays, which starts at 4 and rages into the wee hours of the morning. I’m fortunate enough to be doing the closing set tonight, and DJing alongside some great DJs who also happen to all be good friends of mine! The cast of characters includes DJ Scotty Boy, DJ Ricky Jay, DJ Bling, and DJ Fam! The boys from up north are bringing a party bus from Santa Barbara. This is not an event to be missed!
The Pediatric AIDS Coalition at UCLA (PAC) presents Dance Marathon 2013: Illuminate! Join us as we acknowledge the battle of children suffering from AIDS by fighting our own personal battle: staying on your feet for 26 hours to literally take a stand for Pediatric HIV/AIDS.
With thousands of participants, live music, and appearances by celebrities and activists alike, Dance Marathon has raised $3 million in its eleven year history ($451,144.03 last year alone!), benefiting HIV-affected children around the world. Proceeds benefit three organizations: the Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric AIDS Foundation, Project Kindle, and the UCLA AIDS Institute. Since its inception in 2002, DM aims to empower the UCLA campus community in the fight against pediatric AIDS by raising awareness about the importance of HIV education and testing, and helping young people make a difference in halting the spread of this critical, preventable disease.
For the past few years I’ve DJ’d the closing set, from 9am to Noon. Just as I start my set, the curtains in Ackerman Grand Ballroom are opened, and the first daylight shines in on the dancers, who at that point will have been dancing for 22 hours! At Noon, there is a “Power Hour” where a series of singalong type songs are played to bring the dancers home, and right at 1pm they all get to sit down for the first time in 26 hours. A few speeches later, the total money raised is shown for the first time. It’s always an emotional and gratifying moment, and I’m proud to participate each year, along with my good friends DJ Splyce and DJ DG. It truly is a blessing to be able to make a living doing something I love to do, and giving back at events like this is the least I can do!
Here’s the final total! $67,851.10 raised for pediatric cancer research!
This Sunday, January 24th, I’ll be DJing a very special event!
LIGHTS. CAMERA. CURE. The Hollywood Dance-A-THON is a 6-hour dance party/charity event at the historic Avalon Theater in the heart of Hollywood. The event features live entertainment (bands, musicians, DJ, etc.) performing for supporters who have signed up to dance and raise money for the cause. Of course, the Hollywood locale is completed with a Red Carpet, celebrities & VIP’s, a silent auction and more. Proceeds benefit the Four Diamonds Fund and their fight against pediatric cancer.
I’m looking forward to DJing this event with some great bands and my good friends DJ Splyce and DJDG.
Just got done with a great weekend out in Ann Arbor, MI. On Friday night I DJ’d at Rush Street with my man DJ Cubicle. Rush is a restaurant/lounge that turns into a club at night. Packed house, high energy crowd, and a live bongo player to take things to the next level.
On Saturday, I played Necto with DJ Hardy. Necto is a bigroom large capacity venue. Lots of house music mixed in with current top40 and hiphop. Big EAW sound system, a stage with poles for the ladies to dance on, and a huge high energy crowd.
All in all, a great weekend! I get out to this neck of the woods about once a year, and it’s always a blast. Big thank you to everyone involved in bringing me out here. Along with Dallas, Ann Arbor is one of my favorite places to gig out of town!
So Labor Day Sunday I’ll be DJing the last Crush Sunday of the season at Baja Sharkeez Hermosa Beach! I’m super excited about this…considering that other headlines of Crush Sundays this summer have included DJ Splyce, Scotty Boy, Spryte, Sex Panther and more! I’m looking forward to an amazing day! Come join me, Sunday, September 2nd, I’ll be on the turntables from 6-10pm!
I’ve been a resident DJ at Baja Sharkeez in Hermosa Beach for a couple years now, and it’s been great! Every summer, Sundays get MASSIVE at Sharkeez since the beach crowd is out in full force. They set up a stage, co2 blasters, the works! This coming Sunday will be a very special one, as my good friend DJ Splyce headlines an event that will include both myself and another friend of mine DJ Hardy from Ann Arbor Michigan. House music by the beach, amazing tacos, stiff drinks, a beautiful beach crowd, what could be better! Hope to see you all there! Check out the event by clicking here!
Tonight I’ll be DJing at Sway in San Diego for their 1 year anniversary. Thanks to the homie Mark Cena for hooking it up! This’ll be my first time playing in San Diego since 2009! Gonna be a good one!!!
Just before the end of 2011, I picked up a new Thursday night residency at The Federal Bar in North Hollywood. I play downstairs in the lounge, and play a bunch of music I enjoy but don’t normally get to play out. Funk, Soul, 80s and 90s R&B, Jazz…pretty much wherever the vibe takes me. The Federal Bar is located at 5303 Lankershim Boulevard, North Hollywood, CA 91601 and I usually play from 8:30-12:30. No cover, minimal dress code – keep it classy, this place is upscale. Come on by for a drink and some good tunes!
